A Short August Newsletter

WorldFest 2008, 2009

Ticket winners Galit and Arthur had a great time at WorldFest 2008. We've got tix for 2009, haven't figured out how they'll be given away.

Upcoming Festivals, Volunteers Needed (August, CA)

Within 4 hours of San Francisco: "Greenest Show on Earth"

SolFest in Hopland Aug 16-17. Come help us run a booth, sampling organic juice and talking about carpooling. We're hoping for a good-sized team in just two weeks -- email if you can join us at this amazing activism + solutions + music festival!

EarthDance is coming this September 12-14. Leave your car home! (All our ticket-exchange volunteer roles are filled for 2008.)

Quote of the Month
"The next Buddha will not take the form of an individual. The next Buddha may take the form of a community; a community practicing understanding and loving kindness, a community practicing mindful living. This may be the most important thing we can do for the survival of the Earth."
-- Thich Nhat Hanh

Green Tip: Recycle CFL Lightbulbs

Home Depot has now joined Ikea in accepting unbroken CFL lightbulbs for recycling, along with many Household Hazardous Waste collections. Since CFLs contain a tiny bit of mercury (older incandescent bulbs are far worse: coal fired plants producing electricity put copious mercury into the atmosphere) recycling is particularly important. More information at Consumer Reports Greener Choices article on recycling CFLs.
