SpaceShare Carpooling & Green Logistics Autumn Newsletter

  • Our records show you signed up for SpaceShare's once-a-month update. If not, just reply and let us know.
* Do you know of a large church, synagogue, mosque or other house of worship that would be inspired to prototype SpaceShare's national carpool-to-worship system? Suggestions anywhere are welcome, but especially in the East Bay.

This month...

San Francisco Crafts Fair to Holiday Party

As December rolls in, this is the first time in many months when our work is quiet enough to list. ** We're currently signing up events for 2007. SpaceShare spreads when you tell conference and festivals about us! We're expecting a very busy 2007! What conferences are you going to?

KPFA Crafts Fair
The last SpaceShare event of this season, a huge fair at the Concourse Exhibition Hall (same place as the Green Festival, a recent green travel event) with an amazing variety of potential holiday gifts.

The San Francisco Nonprofit Technology Center Holiday Celebration
SpaceShare lives in the San Francisco Nonprofit Technology Center (ok, and the very green Nomad Cafe), and we're having a party, a great chance to meet the team and our allies:
When: Wednesday, December 13th, 5:30-8:00PM
Where: 1370 Mission St. 4th Floor, San Francisco, California
Please RSVP by replying to this email.

Global Scorching: Fun & Effective Activism

I love this simple yet attention grabbing do-it-yourself activism. If you live in a low-lying area, get a little bit of blue tape and start marking off the future sea level.

Get involved: help create the community website.

You're invited to help us redesign our entire website and add new community tools. We need people of every technology skill level - especially novices. Bring your expertise, or just another pair of eyes to proof-read and explain what we need to improve. The first step: sign in and introduce yourself.

Please write me if you can help with one of the following:

  1. editing our content,
  2. Drupal expertise,
  3. design fun photos or graphics, or
  4. we especially need fresh eyes to proofread and help with useability.

Another topic: World AIDS Day.

SpaceShare is a social enterprise - are we the one organization not asking for your money this December? And so we want to point to one issue where more free trade and less restrictions would save many lives: opening the market for AIDS drugs to more companies and generics. Countries like Thailand, Brazil and India would like to produce AIDS drugs, but so-called "Free Trade" agreements are being used to restrict free markets and prevent these countries from producing their own cures. A few weeks ago I met a man from Thailand who would need to spend about twice the average Thai income to afford American made drugs. Rich countries are not being asked for help, just to get out of the way and let less rich countries solve the problem. For World AIDS Day, consider signing this petition at Oxfam encouraging Novartis to let Indian companies produce affordable AIDS drugs.

Stephen
