welcome to the world of eco-fashion

Fashion, clothing and commodity consumption have a long and complex history. They are also key elements which must be considered when we endeavour to live ecologically sustainable lifestyles. Fast fashion may be cheap at the purchase point but is costly to the environment. It leads to a globally homogenised look, to discarded clothes languishing forgotten in wardrobes and contributes to landfills. Eco-fashion in the Ecocity argues a return to careful making using sustainable renewable materials, to prolonging the life of clothes through maintenance and repair and to passing on or redeploying the fabrics from clothes that are no longer being worn. By buying fewer clothes that are better made for longer life; darning, hand washing and drying them naturally consumers can make a substantial difference to the ecological impact of what they wear.
