Welcome to the Ecocity World Summit forum on Renewable Energy.

We wish herein to explore the truths of renewable energy, stripped as much as possible of political and other biases. What is meant by renewable? Does such a thing as renewable energy exist? On what spatial and time scales? What are the impacts of said renewable energies on human culture, economics, ecology, etc? How do our lifestyles determine our energy wants and needs?

Although it is impossible that opinion should stand opposite of truth in the sphere of human understanding, there are many physical, chemical and biological truths that can be defined with a high-level of confidence. When a material is combusted, certain compounds are formed. When a forest is clear-cut and planted with one species of plant, the soil composition changes and erosion plays a much heavier hand in shaping the land. We must attempt to understand these truths as best we can. Our health, happiness and longevity depend on it.
