Core Festival Volunteer/Intern/Partner
Is your heart with the festival community? For the last two years, the festival side of SpaceShare has started spring with someone from the festival community ready to take over the festival exhibits -- a mix of fun, a little fame, and a good sized dose of responsibility and being focused while others party -- but we still haven't found a team that can run a booth smoothly without the founder. The closing effort of the 2007 Festival Season is outreach to find a serious and committed person, or people, to bring carpooling and greening to the festival communities. This role could start soon, entrepreneurially contacting next year's festivals and sponsors, or could be a volunteer role next spring. Contact us if you love festivals and are ready to show up to make them greener!
- A super-regular volunteer who knows how to run the booth when everything is normal. [Gas and some food money depending on the festival, and tends to get first-dibs on tickets to the best festivals.]
- Plus, able to manage and train other volunteers; able to deal with flaky, loving, hippyish volunteers; able to deal with contingencies that come up, able to run a booth well even when everything isn't normal. [Stephen doesn't have to attend when you do... more expenses paid.]
- Festival, sponsor and team coordinator: coordinate the volunteers, work your way through festival forms and regulations, coordinate drop-offs with the sponsor before the festival begins. Perhaps more festivals than lighter roles. All expenses paid attending festivals, perhaps a small stipend.
- And/or, Traveling Festival Coordinator. Spend your summer on the road going from festival to festival in your car with a load of festival gear, meandering up and down the West Coast. Gas and weekend food paid for at the festivals. Possibility of taking a laptop and wireless connector and doing some regular work for SpaceShare during part of the week.
- And/or, Sponsor or Planning Coordinator Start now contacting potential sponsors and/or festivals. Create your own mini-business running the part of SpaceShare's festival carpool+sponsorship system. This could be a paid internship, all the way up to creating a partnered business and being an entrepreneur.
ASK QUESTIONS!!! What in the above description rings true, what would be a challenge?
Where we can't be flexible: we need someone who takes charge, at least of themselves. We get herds of people offering to do this kind of volunteer work. 90% aren't serious, they like the idea of volunteering but they never manifest. Are you ready to show up, to be on time, to communicate? If so, you can do amazingly powerful and important work. Please recognize that we (like many progressive West Coast groups) are awash in people offering to help who don't show up -- remind us, let us know that you're one of the serious ones. We'll admit it up front: we have so many potential volunteers that it's hard to put much energy into you until after you've started. Convince us your serious and you can be part of an amazing and effective community! It may feel anonymous when you first offer, but once you start contributing, you'll be taken very seriously as a volunteer/participant at SpaceShare.
