greening hospital transportation
[from discussions with Health Care Without Harm]
If you come across a hospital trying to reduce pollution or avoid building more parking, we would very much like to work with them. I think that we should work with them one at a time, starting with the hospitals most interested in being green or having the most difficult travel and parking problems, and designing custom programs (both the technology and the ways to encourage use). Budget is an issue here, and we would need to find funding sources. Some hospitals might be willing to pay directly: reducing even a few parking spaces would often pay for a system. I don't have a "cookie-cutter" answer right now: we might be focused on helping staff carpool, or patients, or have a particular focus on patients unable to drive; a rural and an urban hospital would have different systems, and our first step is to listen to the hospital's challenges. After we work with half a dozen different hospitals, then we could start standardizing the model.
