CalBean Forum Introductions

Stephen Cataldo, carpooling and green travel at SpaceShare

I started SpaceShare four years ago, partly to make it easier for me to continue to thrive without a car. Before that I was a green activist and ran a vegetarian cafe. Looking to connect with the local environmental community, maybe start political movie nights or discussions, and especially to connect with people who dream big.

I can help, offer or teach...:

Set up carpool orchestration for your events, or other online networking, or provide leads on other conference- and festival-greening. Build websites especially data driven dynamic sites, or refer you to friends especially in the nonprofit field. Slightly out-of-date but previously led programs vegetarian and world trade issues, and high school anti-smoking industry talks.

i'd like to learn, or need help with:

*SpaceShare needs interns and partners to spread our carpooling work (especially help with spreading the word/sales, more important need than tech help right now).

*Looking for study-partners to explore advanced Drupal techniques (the tools this site is written in). Reading/study partners exploring why people become conservative or liberal, and what makes conservative movements healthy or liberal movements healthy.

Garth Schultz, Waste Prevention Specialist, Organizer

I am an Alumnus of the College of Natural Resources Environmental Science Program, graduated in 2002.

I currently work for the City of El Cerrito Recycling Center, where I continue my work making the world a better place.

In addition to working full time with the City, I also attend Cal State Univeristy East Bay for a master's program in Public Administration.

Fundraising, organizing, and interpersonal connection

i'd like to learn, or need help with:

Making BEAN into an organization with the capacity to make Cal into a national leader in sustainability, and to benefit its members in the areas of professional development, and more.

Rachel Balsley, Recycling Program Manager

I'm a BEAN member and on the Steering Committee because I want to stay informed of environmental initiatives on the UC Berkeley campus and want to network with Cal alumni environmental professionals.

I work at StopWaste.Org (formerly the Alameda County Waste Management Authority & Recycling Board) providing waste prevention and recycling assistance to medium and large-sized businesses in Alameda County. I also promote environmentally preferable purchasing. Check out my programs' webpages at www.StopWaste.Org/Partnership and www.StopWaste.Org/EPP.
